You best friend has divorced - and he's made some sweeping changes in his life.

He's out clubbing every weekend, plays footie twice a week and has even bought a snazzy new car.

And in a classic case of grass looking greener on the other side, his new-found freedom might be tempting you to break-up with your other half.

Almost one in four men who have divorced or split up with their partner admitted their decision was swayed by friends who had done the same.

One in seven women were also influenced by newly single acquaintances.

And a further one in ten confessed they just wanted the same happiness as their unencumbered friends, a survey by Co-operative Legal Services showed.

Director of policy Christina Blacklaws said: 'It's human nature to look to others for reassurance when in a relationship.

'When one couple splits up, others often notice the cracks in their own relationship, leading to a ripple effect throughout a social circle or family.

'But it is important to remember all relationships are unique. We encounter many people who expect the same divorce process as their friends but quickly find their situation is very different.'
